Polish Your Preaching
If we believe that our worship services are key to bringing people into a deeper understanding of and relationship to God and Christ, and we believe that the sermon or message is the heart of each worship service, then we must also believe that the preaching (or communication) skills of the person delivering that sermon is crucially important to the mission of the church!
Therefore, we must all be aware of and constantly working to improve those skills in order to communicate God’s messages most effectively. A good theology well written still doesn’t cut through all the clutter and clamor of the average person in the pew’s already overly-informed brain if it is not presented well.
We are developing several opportunities to fine-tune your preaching skills, the first of which will be presented in Los Angeles, Sept. 18-20 and will include visits to major churches in the area to observe their preaching as well as coaching and practice sessions from excellent teachers.
Lawrence Wilkes, former head of the Robert Schuller School of Preaching, will be putting this together for us. Check back in the next few weeks for details, cost and info about registration.
